Our Favorite Website! TrustedHousesitters
TrustedHousesitters is a well-established company and the largest house sitting platform on the market. With over 225,000+ current members, there are endless opportunities for homeowners and pet sitters to connect worldwide. Although the cost to join is higher than their competitors, these subscription costs make for a safer, more user-friendly experience with access to 24/7 customer support, insurance options (including sit cancellation insurance), vet advice, and a very active community forum. Our favorite feature is their mobile app, which makes it convenient to apply to house sits and correspond with homeowners from anywhere. For these reasons, TrustedHousesitters is our favorite house-sitting website to use.

All owned by one company, the experience with these websites will be pretty similar across the board. In terms of opportunities available and user friendliness, these sites are excellent! Customer service is also five stars! Their safety features are sufficient, not lacking but not outstanding. Our only concern is that these websites do not charge pet owners to join. As a result, owner listings aren’t always as thoroughly filled out and we worry a bit about their reliability and commitment to the exchange. However, from reviews that we’ve read of the site people are still having a great experience. Especially pet owners! One thing to note, if you intend to travel to multiple countries worldwide you can reach out to their support for an extra discount!

When choosing a house sitting website, this is what we look for.
First, safety features. We have full confidence in our ability to vet homes and pet owners before agreeing to a house sit. Even still, it’s our belief that a house sitting site should have features and resources in place to protect our experience and make it as safe and supported as possible.
Second, paid memberships. “WHAT! You really expect me to pay for this?!” Absolutely, and here’s why. People who get something for free are far less likely to it seriously. We are already placing our faith in the good of people by participating in house sitting exchanges. We want to feel confident that others choosing to join the website are as serious and invested in a successful exchange as we are. In addition to this, companies need capital to function. More capital allows for better customer service, more upgrades, and superior features.
Third, number of opportunities. There are dozens of house sitting sites on the market, but not all of them offer as many house sitting opportunities as others. When choosing a site, it’s important to us that we have a good chance of finding house sits in locations that are desirable to us.
Lastly, user friendliness. Managing our profile, browsing for listings, and communicating with pet owners takes regular time and attention. The last thing we want to deal with on top of it all is a clunky interface. Therefore, having access to a user-friendly website is high on our priority list when choosing a house sitting platform.
